The SSI Science of Diving course is a theoretical program designed to expand a diver’s knowledge of essential diving concepts and principles. It’s a deep dive into the “science” behind diving, helping divers understand the mechanics of what happens underwater and how their bodies and equipment react to the conditions.
Here’s a breakdown of what the course covers:
- Physics: Learn how water pressure, buoyancy, and density affect you and your dive.
- Physiology: Understand how diving impacts the human body, including how to prevent and manage dive-related health issues.
- Decompression Theory: Get to grips with how your body absorbs and releases gases during dives, and learn the basics of safe ascent practices.
- Equipment: Dive into the specifics of your scuba gear, how it works, and how to maintain it.
- Marine Environment: Explore the underwater environment and how to navigate its challenges safely.
This course is an essential part of progressing to more advanced levels of diving, such as becoming a Divemaster or Diving Instructor, as it provides the scientific background needed to make informed decisions in and out of the water.
The SSI Science of Diving course is available online, making it flexible for divers to complete at their own pace, and there are no water sessions—just theory!
What the course involves:
Digital Learning: SSI developed this program using modern Educational Management System (EMS) technology. It is designed to provide you with the knowledge required to become a Dive Guide in an easy-to-understand, logical sequence. You’ll be able to complete the e-learning at home at your own pace before attending the course.
*Optional Academic Sessions: An instructor-led workshops, and other interactive activities. They are designed to apply the knowledge gained from the Digital Learning in a practical, real- world environment. By completing these sessions, you will gain an understanding of the Science of Diving and be one step closer to being a Dive Master.
