Dive Gear Servicing

Dive Gear Servicing and repairs

The Majority of Dive Equipment Servicing is done on site, right here in Whangarei.  If you do not live in Whangarei you are more than welcome to send us your gear via courier and we’ll service it and send it back.

Why have your dive gear serviced?

Your regulators are your life support system keeping you safe whilst diving, make sure they work!!

Faulty gear can spoil a great day (or holiday).  Imagine all of the effort involved getting to your favourite dive site and your equipment lets you down, stopping you from diving.

Most quality manufacturers recommend a full service annually or every second year depending on the usage with an inspection by a trained technician on the year in between a Full Service.  We call that in between  inspection a Check & Tune.

There are 2 types of service for regulators.

Full Service

A Full Service involves your regulators being stripped down, cleaned, all internal O rings, filters and other parts supplied in the manufacturers service kit replaced.  We also replace the O rings on all of the hoses and on the High Pressure swivel connecting your SPG.  They are then rebuilt, tuned and tested on our test station according to the manufacturers guidelines to ensure safe and reliable performance from your equipment.  Then they are put into the pool to check for any bubbles that shouldn’t be there before being ready to collect by you.

Check and Tune

A Check and Tune involves us checking that your regulators are working within the manufacturers specifications.  If they are outside of these, then we can normally adjust them to bring them back into specification.

If on a Check and Tune, we find that the equipment is not able to be tuned correctly, or doesn’t pass our checklist, then they will require a Full Service.

Extras

If your regulators need more parts to make them safe, such as new hoses or mouth pieces, then we will do this during the Full Service or Check & Tune.

We are an Authorised Service Centre for quality brands such as Apeks, Aqualung, Atlantis, Hollis, Mares, Oceanic, Scubapro and Zeagle.  We can work on Regulators, BCD’s and Gauges .

For computer battery changes, we have a pressure pot to test the integrity of the seal.

We aim to provide you with a high level of customer service and good turnaround time.  During the summer months our turnaround time may increase by a week, so please plan ahead and drop your equipment off early to avoid disappointment and to ensure your gear will be ready for your next dive trip.

Not all manufacturers offer the quality support that we receive from Aqualung, Apeks, Atlantis, Mares and Scubapro when it comes to accessing service parts.  If this is the case, we will do our best to get your service kit in a timely manner, but we are at the suppliers mercy here.

Dive gear servicing

Costs vary due to parts and labour required.

A full service can take about 1.5 to 2 hours for a set of regulators if all goes smoothly.   As with all servicing, the cost varies depending on what parts are required. Servicing prices include labour and service kits only. There is a standard labour charge of half an hour per stage. Prices are subject to change depending on the internal condition of each stage and its contents. We can provide estimates prior to the repair starting if required.  But if your regulators haven’t been well loved, then they may take longer to get them back into working order and so costs more.

Many quality brands have balanced/over balanced Second stage regulators,  they can begin to free flow if upside down (mouthpiece pointing upwards).  This is how they are designed.  They normally have an adjustable Venturi lever that can be put into a pre-dive mode that prevents this.  They can still be used safely underwater in this position.

A Check & Tune costs $50.

A full service cost $235, but can vary due to service kits.

Based on 1 x 1st stage, 2 x 2nd stages and SPG.

$185 if you have 1 x 1st stage & 1 x 2nd Stage (no back up regulator) and SPG.

We may need to replace other parts such as purges, hoses and mouthpieces to make your gear safe to dive.

Please do not be offended if we cannot service your gear.  Some gear we can no longer get parts for or it may be cracked and so we cannot take it apart.

Older pieces of equipment may no longer be supported by the manufacturer and so we do not have access to parts.  This is also true for some more modern cheaper brands availability in NZ.  Some cheaper brands we will not service.
