25th August to 1st September 2027
Whether you are an avid scuba diver or a snorkeller looking for a breathtaking encounter, this trip offers something truly extraordinary. Prepare to swim alongside the majestic giants of the deep and explore thriving reef systems of Tongatapu
Tonga holiday just 3 hours flight time from Auckland
Tongatapu offers an easy, unpretentious South Pacific escape combining Polynesian culture, historical landmarks, and rugged coastal beauty without heavy commercial tourism.
August and September brings cooler, drier weather with average air temperatures around 24°C to 26°C and sea temperatures of 23°C to 24°C.
The combination of volcanic origins and uplifted limestone has carved out spectacular landscapes across the islands. Join us whilst we explore together.
Our Tonga dive trip 2027 includes;
Two days out on the water looking for humpback whales and having a swim with the whales if they are receptive to us. Leaving at around 7.30am and travelling at a slow, calm and unhurried pace of 8 knots an hour we will search for the whales. We return around 2pm.
Three days of scuba diving Tonga reefs with a total of six dives. Explore the hard corals and steep walls of this pacific haven.
We recommend a 3mm to 5mm full suit. Bring a windproof jacket or poncho for in between the water activities as the wind can cool you down.
A half day guided tour of the Western side of the island, visiting, Tsunami Rock, Mapu’a Vaea blowholes, the Flying foxes at Kolovai village and the landing site of Abel Tasman.

What are the reefs like at Tongatapu?
Hard Coral Plateaus & Canyons
You will see fields of massive porites (boulder corals), intricate staghorn thickets, and sprawling table corals.
The Marine Life: These hard coral gardens are home to hundreds of species of smaller reef fish. You will find large communities of anemonefish (clownfish), parrotfish, triggerfish, and neon damselfish darting through the structures.
Sheer limestone cliffs decorated with large sea fans, deep overhangs, and swim-throughs carved out by ancient volcanic and wave action
The Marine Life: These edges are where the pelagic action happens. It is highly common to see grey reef sharks, white tip reef sharks, eaglerays green sea turtles cruising the walls. Large schools of barracuda and trevally frequently patrol the current-heavy points.
