Nudibranch Ecology Programme

In the SSI Nudibranch Ecology program, you will explore the world of nudibranchs, also commonly called sea slugs, in seven detailed sessions.

We have added an optional four dives to the program to go and use the knowledge you have learned and see these wonderful creatures in their natural habitat at the protected Poor Knights Islands.

What you will learn

These sessions include nudibranch classification and habitats, their movement, and sensory and respiratory systems.

Discover their complex reproductive strategies, relationships with other marine organisms, feeding habits, and the crucial role they play in marine ecosystems. You will also explore their defense mechanisms and interactions with humans, with an emphasis on current nudibranch research and conservation initiatives.

 Who is this course for?

If you love looking for nudibranchs when you are out diving, join this course and come out to the Poor Knights with us and we will spend 4 dives looking for these wonderful creatures.

After reading your material, we will go to the ocean to use your new knowledge to locate and  photograph a variety of nudibranchs.

We can then identify the species using the methods described in the course.
