Non Diver through to SSI Divemaster

Who is our dive intership for?
Becoming an SSI Divemaster isn’t just for experienced divers wishing to up skill their diving ability — it’s also for people looking for adventure, purpose, confidence, and even a means to travel the world.
Many Divemasters start as complete beginners with no diving background at all. What begins as curiosity often turns into a passion for the ocean, travel, marine life, and helping others experience something incredible for the first time.
What does the Non Diver to Divemaster internship involve?
Nine SSI courses over sixteen weeks.
Open Water course – Learn the foundational skills.
Perfect Buoyancy – Master your buoyancy and start to look like the Pros.
Enriched Air Nitrox – Extend your bottom time or just reduce your nitrogen uptake.
Deep Diver – Gain the skills to plan and complete dives to 40 metres with No Decompression.
Diver Stress and Rescue – Problem recognition and solving on yourself or other divers.
Low Visibility and Night – Learn why water visibility can change and how you can communicate in low visibility.
Navigation – If you are leading divers, you need to be able to navigate accurately underwater.
Science of Diving – Increase your diving theory with this online course and then put this knowledge into action during your diving.
Divemaster – Learn how to guide qualified divers. Minimum number of 40 dives required to start the course and a minimum of 60 required at time of completion.
The Opportunity to dive
During the EIGHT courses prior to the Divemaster course you will log at least 18 dives.
To get more experience in the diving styles you have studied, you should go diving with your buddies and practise the new skills that you learned. This will help you build up your muscle memory of the skills, have fun diving and get your logged dives up to at least 40 dives – the minimum requirement for starting the Divemaster course.
You can also access our pool with your buddy to practise.
You will get the opportunity to join our charters out to the Poor Knights Islands.
The non diving side
If you need somewhere to study, feel free to use one of our classrooms.
You will get involved around the retail store, dive centre, booking office and on the charter in various roles each week.
Prerequisites:
- Full payment of course
- Be 18 years old at the start of the Divemaster course.
- A current REACT RIGHT or First Aid certification completed within the past 24 months prior to starting the Diver Stress and Rescue course.
- You will need to obtain a Dive Medical before completing the Divemaster course.

We have a dive Retail Store to help you get the best deals on professional dive equipment.
On our charter vessel, you’ll get real hands on experience with real customers.
We can also train you as an Air Filler (additional costs apply) and give you real life experience (on the Charter and in-store) which will give you more experience than most when applying for a job.
We can also help you in starting your career in diving. We have a lot of contacts in the industry, are often looking for staff ourselves and know what employers are looking for when hiring Dive Guide staff.
