How to get to Whangarei

Travelling to Whangarei from around New Zealand.

By road

State Highway 1 (SH1)  is the major road that travels the length of New Zealand. It links Auckland to Whangarei and to the Far North.

Self drive

Either renting a car or campervan is the most convenient way to travel around New Zealand.

Inter City buses

Linking Auckland through Whangarei to Paihia and on to Kerikeri and finally Kaitaia.

The buses leave from;

Auckland – Sky City Auckland – Auckland’s Sky City Bus Terminal, 102 Hobson Street, Auckland.

Whangarei – 91 Dent Street, Whangārei 0110

Paihia – Marsden Road, Paihia 0200

By Air

Air New Zealand fly to Whangarei from Auckland.  Then you would need to organise a car from the airport. Do be aware that flights to and from Whangarei are sometimes cancelled if there are not enough customers.
